WARNING: This is quite possibly the most boring post I've ever written. It is all about furniture and my storage conundrums.

D and I (and by that I mean I decided) that if we're going to stay in this tiny box of an apartment that we needed some different furniture. Our new couches are being delivered tomorrow, which is very exciting. We're trading some furniture with my mom. We're acquiring a king size bed and some wall units that will serve as additional storage in our bedroom. D and Brother are going to get those things tomorrow as well.

Of course it has to be difficult. The U-Haul people had no idea what they were talking about when they told us what trailer we'd need to move our stuff. When we got there today the trailer we'd reserved was not going to work at all. We ended up having to drive halfway across town in the pouring rain (which in Colorado makes drivers absolutely stupid because they never see it) and barely making it to the OTHER U-Haul store. We ended up having to rent a truck that cost twice as much as the original trailer would have.

Of course our "moving day" is so precariously scheduled that there isn't much room for flexibility. So at 8:30 when Brother called from work to tell D that he might have to work tomorrow at 4 PM this rattled me a little. For about 20 minutes D and I ranted at each other, trying to figure out exactly what we were going to do. Then he called back saying that he'll just go in whenever we're done. I swear, find these things out for sure before calling and alarming people.

Our place is very weird looking right now; a great deal of our stuff is very carefully stacked into the office. The poor kitties will have to be locked in there for a significant part of the day tomorrow. I feel bad for them, as there is about 2 square feet of space on the floor. They'll just climb up on things.

Overall, I'm happy we're doing this. It will make the next two years in this apartment more manageable and comfortable for everyone. It's just a pain in the ass to move everything you own.

I know ML probably knows this, but in a tiny living space it is essential that there is a place for everything. A pair of shoes left out in our apartment messes things up. To finally have a place to put everything will be such a relief. Presently, every time I do laundry I end up standing in front of the closets and dresser with a confused look on my face. This look comes to my face because I cannot imagine how to put the puzzle of where things will go back together.

I finally started piling things on the floor. Then I bought baskets. Then the baskets broke because they were cheap. Then there was basket crap all over. Now I will have these really neat wall units to put everything in. We're also keeping our original dresser in the office to offer additional storage. This way there are places to put D's things and my things. This will help a lot when it comes to the constant "Honey, where is my ______?" questions. It won't eliminate them, but it will help.

BOTTOM LINE: This post was written to justify to myself spending a whole lot of money. I've never spent so much money at one time before. It scares the shit out of me.

Yes, yes I do... but the anally retentive organisational thing feels soooooooooo goood :-) I do miss it sometimes. The lesson is, when you get a bigger space - don't expand into it and life remains fairly easy.

And whatever you do....do not become a pack-rat. After 28 years I have more crap hidden than I remember.
