Sometimes things really do get worse before they get better.

D's job (Brother and I also worked for the same company) has been wreaking havoc on our lives for quite some time now. His boss called all the time, the hours were awful and then last week all the payroll checks bounced. All our people were late on rent and extremely angry. D, Brother and I decided we'd had enough. So we quit.

It was an extremely ugly process.

When I quit my boss swore at me. Using lots of lovely phrases to tell me how I was "fucking him over"... Very unprofessional. I suppose it wasn't very nice of the three of us to quit without any notice, but it also wasn't nice to issue paychecks he knew would bounce then spend six days dilly dallying around to pay us.

As you can imagine this has caused quite a bit of consternation around our house. We're still cleaning up the last bits of shit that this company left in our lives but this morning there was definitely an air of relief, even happiness in our bedroom.

We're headed off to Mexico on the 27th. It's going to be great to get away. Until then we've got some free time for D to catch up on school, for me to get the house clean and organized and to get some long put-off reading accomplished. I have that nasty lingering anxiety that things are falling together a little too easily though. I hope that maybe this is all just karma's gift to us for the struggles of the last year.

The weather is beautiful here. I'd forgotten how living this close to the mountains makes early spring days so much happier. Everything seems clean and fresh. I can't wait to get our place cleaned out and have a new start. I'd like to come home from Mexico to a tidy, fresh house.
